My Top 3 Oscar Favorites! Oscar’s 2014 Fashion

3 Mar

Let me just say first of all that, fashion, like any other art form is a matter of opinion. Don’t you hate when people feel entitled to tear others down and make judgement calls on someone else’s style? Well, it’s Oscar season, so being that there is way too much of that going around, no best and worst found here. Only positivity and praise for the 3 dresses that I found most wonderful at last night’s Academy Awards.

In no particular order:

Lupita! First of all, Lupita Nyong’o is 31. Wow! She is just stunning! Her custom made Prada gown, which she helped design, was a beautiful powder sky blue. A color she said reminds her of hometown in Kenya. The plunging neckline added a nice contrast to the fullness of the skirt. Something about it is very 1950’s, yet still now and modern. Without being to bulky or drowning her, this is full skirt perfection! She finished it off with exquisite Fred Leighton jewels, satin platform sandals, and a matching clutch, as she polished it off with an unexpected headband, which I adore! This dress, paired with her poise and elegance, and then, the WIN! What a perfect night for her! Congrats Lupita!Lupita Nyong'o e9fb10ad-cec8-43d1-9007-3d69fd3011ea-620x372 Screen Shot 2014-03-03 at 11.54.43 AM Screen Shot 2014-03-03 at 11.54.56 AM

Next up, Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace! This is classic Hollywood glam reminiscent of the 1930s. The eggshell white is the perfect color, giving it undeniable elegance. And I ADORE the slightly raised shoulders and back drape. It adds the element of subdued drama! All the beading embellishments gave it an extra touch of delicacy. Stunning.

And lastly… this may come as a shock. But again, we are talking dresses and fashion here, so I must be honest about what was worn this night and this night only, regardless of past faux pas or what I may think of the person in general. But I must say, Lady Gaga looked amazing in this white and platinum Versace gown. I love the art deco print of this dress- which I believe is completely beaded (awesome). The way it sculpts and curves, handing over a pretty hourglass shape. The chiffon scarf adds flowiness to the otherwise very structured ensemble. She pairs the dress with Brian Atwood shoes, and Lorraine Schwartz diamonds. I could do without the exaggerated platform, but it does add the element of typical “Gaga” that she may have been craving. I have read and seen many negative reviews of this look. But again, fashion is art, art is perspective, and perspective is individual. Do not ever be fooled into thinking your perception HAS to be the same as someone else’s. I think she looks amazing.9de3f140-eb9e-4b86-8ee8-cdd68f6a4020-1357x2040 Screen Shot 2014-03-03 at 12.30.08 PM Screen Shot 2014-03-03 at 12.38.15 PM

OSCARS

I REPEAT: fashion is art, art is perspective, and perspective is individual. Do not ever be fooled into thinking your perception HAS to be the same as someone else’s.

That being said, comments are welcome! What was your favorite look this year?
