“The Runaround” Poem by A. Roze

7 Jul

I am alive.

Can’t you feel my vibe?

Yea, it’s dark, but I can see.

I know the world is waiting for me.

But I’m not ready to leave,

this place is too comforting.

And what if they don’t like me?

Besides, I’m busy!

Just because they can’t see,

doesn’t mean I’m not learning,

Maturing, enduring, furthering,

My knowledge and growth,

They’re the ones who don’t know

How strong I am, I just don’t boast!

Soon I won’t be so quiet- they ain’t ready though!

Shoot, maybe I’ll just stay here,

Do myself a favor,

Cuz out there, they don’t stop and savor,

Moments… like these.

No, they don’t stop and look at trees or

Think about who has no where to sleep,

Watch the future buckle at its knees,

Too focused on their own needs,

Too blind to see,

What’s right here, right now, happening.

Come to think… they need me.

How selfish could I be.. to think

That I too, would just let it sink

For a little solidarity.

Or because it’s a little scary to me.

No more excuses, and I’ll be sure to tell them so,

Maybe I should sleep on it though….
