Why are you here?

READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO TO WORK TOMORROW!

Meta Chyle

Hello to everyone!!!

This is my first blog and I’m very happy to get into this world of sharing ideas.

While thinking of a topic to write about, one just seemed to keep showing up everywhere around me.

Why are we here? What is the purpose? Is there even a reason for our existence? First off, I’ll never hide the fact that I am a Christian. And before you get all Family Guy on me, calling me stupid because of my belief, ask yourself when has it been open minded to judge someone’s belief, and call them stupid because of their faith? I don’t blame anybody for doing that because the mainstream media has us all “debating” our beliefs in ways that are destructive to us all. We all have triggers and they know how to pull them. You will see after this blog, getting us to debate our beliefs in…

Styling a Hip Hop Period Piece. BTS of Planet Asia’s Music Video “Mystique”

3 Nov

I LOVE period pieces! I also LOVE hip hop! This music video was an awesome collaboration of seemingly different worlds. And yet it all flows very cleanly. I’m very happy to have worked on the wardrobe, and with some awesome people!

When Varras Tower (the director) approached me about this project, he initially asked about making the costumes from scratch. Of course my immediate concern was time and budget. A period piece set in the 1890s requires a lot of attention to detail on the wardrobe. We were faced with the dilemma of having looks that were authentic to the period, but still in budget and fitting to Varras’ vision. We decided on an original Victorian look with a pinch of goth and a dash of steampunk. The game plan being to purchase and rent reproduction costumes, mixed with some vintage items that I had in my collection, and a few of my hand made accessories to complete the looks.

Is It Really OK To Wear LEGGINGS As Pants?

22 Oct

Fashion Tag

animal-print-leggingsIf you’re gonna ask our male beloved friends, you’ll probably get a ‘Hell yeah!’ answer before you finish your question. I did. Just asked my husband. But since dressing and looking good or bad for them is NOT something we live for, nor strive to achieve… let’s leave the leggings as pants fantasy for them right where it’s at. In their fantasy world. Or it is too late?

Have leggings become the new pants out there?

Er… NO. Leggings are not pants, and if you’re wearing them as such, you’re pretty much asking for it, as somebody put it. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but I just so happen to think that very few leggings styles and even fewer leggings looks can honestly pass for a good #ootd or even chic/cool outfits. how-to-style-leggings (2)how-to-style-leggings (5)When in God’s name anyway did these gym pants cross the work-out attire boundary? Right onto…

5 Ways to Customize Your Product. Wow Your Clients!

21 Aug

5 ways to customize your product

Presentation means everything, no matter what business you’re in! Below I’ve outlined some of my key ingredients in a successful presentation of a custom gown to a private client.

1. Find out what your customer really wants.

No matter the product, you may run into clients that know (or think they know) exactly what they want. Intentional or otherwise, it may feel like they just want to use your skill, and not your creative expertise. In the end however, you are the one that will be held accountable for how the product turns out. Keeping this in mind, the best way to start is by having a sit down consultation with the client. Have a list of questions ready. Come up with the questions beforehand that hone in on the direction of their vision. Gain insight on how they want to feel about this product and/or how they want it to make them feel. Be honest about what you can and cannot do. Be honest about pricing. If the requests increase, let them know right away the costs that will be incurred.

Having clients that basically give you free reign over a design idea is always a pleasure! Ronisha came to me in need of a reception dress that would flatter her figure, while also showing her sophistication as a newlywed.

2. Give them your input as an expert and come up with a vision that meets the clients requirements and has your personal touch.

I came up with the sketch below. Ivory stretch satin with Swarovski crystals adorning her from the neckline, all the way down the front of the dress in flattering V shapes. The satin hugging her curves, while ivory chiffon peaks out at her shoulders and neckline. Ivory chiffon drapes down the back in a double layer, while a single fan pleated layer subtly shows off her legs in the front.

Lucky for me, Ronisha loved this sketch and gave me the ok to go ahead and get started. Sometimes, it may take some revising, or even coming up with a new concept entirely. Just make sure they are happy before going past this step.

How to Make Distressed Denim Shorts! How to bleach Jeans!

23 Apr

A couple weeks ago, I showed you how to turn your boot leg and wide leg jeans into skinny jeans. I mentioned that its best if the jeans have stretch in them, since that will be most comfortable. Well, Spring is here, so now I’ll show you what to do with the jeans that don’t have stretch in them. And even if they have a little stretch, this will work also.

Denim shorts are a staple for Spring and Summer, why not make yours the way you want AND save some money AND recycle! I’m all about it, plus I have a ton of fun experimenting!

Styling a Music Video! E-Turn & SPS “Lucid”

8 Apr

Styling music videos is something I have always wanted to get in to since I started making clothes. I finally had the opportunity when Orlando emcee E-Turn asked me to be a part of her music video for “Lucid”, a track off of her latest album- Dark Trust. Directed by Varras Tower, this project was so fun to work on and came out amazing!

The theme is that E-Turn and her hip hop crew are hanging out on the Daytona beach boardwalk and arcade when they run into a punk/biker guy and get into a mini altercation with him. He calls his crew in, and it turns into a dance off between the hip hop and the punk/bikers. Continue reading
